Wish Me Good Night Vision!

Well, I did warn you the blog would be neglected…I reached the 100-page mark in the first draft of “The Hidden Agenda of Sigrid Sugden” on Friday. I don’t know why, but 100 pages is always hugely encouraging. I tend to forget, from book to book, what hard work writing is. Wonderful work, expansive work, but never easy (if it starts to feel easy, I get uneasy).

I can’t remember who said this, and possibly I’ve already quoted it earlier in the blog, but it bears repeating:

“A writer is someone for whom writing is more difficult than it is for others.”

At the same time, it’s great fun to revisit the characters from “Nine Lives” and “Present Tense” – it feels like dropping in on old friends whom I haven’t seen for a while.
I’m not sure how the book is going to end. For me, writing sometimes feels like fumbling my way through a dark room, hoping I won’t fall through a hole in the floor or bump into any concrete walls. Wish me good night vision!

School should be ending soon – or maybe already has. Have a wonderful summer – and happy reading.
