Jill is on TV!!

Watch for me on the Morning Show on Global TV on Monday morning February 17th at 6:45 a.m. (yes, that’s a.m.) with Crystal Garrett, the Anchor and Co-Host of the Morning News.

We’ll be talking about all five of my books.

Work In Progress

A busy week copy-editing The Hidden Agenda of Sigrid Sugden, to be published in the fall by Fitzhenry & Whiteside.

This is the final book of the three that started with The Nine Lives of Travis Keating back in 2008.

If you’ve read the second book, The Present Tense of Prinny Murphy, you may remember Sigrid as one of the Shrikes, the three girls who bullied Prinny. At the end of the book, Prinny is terrorized by Tate and Mel, and escapes in a dory in the fog. Later, she figures out Sigrid was the one who sent for help.

I always wondered what would happen to Sigrid when Tate and Mel found out she made the phone call that got them into big trouble…

Like the other two books, Hidden Agenda is set on Newfoundland’s northern peninsula.

Spring is in the Air!

In the afternoon of my third annual visit to Bedford South School, I made bookings to fly to Gander in Newfoundland in May.

I’d heard via my website from a teacher in Gambo (to the east of Gander, the nearest airport), whose students have been reading “The Nine Lives of Travis Keating” and “The Present Tense of Prinny Murphy“; she said how neat it would be if I could visit.

Now that my son and his family don’t live in Newfoundland any more, I miss my twice-annual trips to “The Rock“. The teacher is from Fogo Island, a place I’ve often wanted to go. And maybe spring is in the air!

Anyway, after a flurry of emails, I’m going to Gambo and Fogo Island, and I’m very excited about it.

Lots to do in Toronto!

Silver Birch Ceremony

Back to Toronto, where I visit both publishers, go to a Plan Canada dinner, go to Harbourfront for a gathering of writers, agents and publishers, dinners with friends, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Royal Museum of Ontario, and then on Thursday the 12th, the Silver Birch Award ceremony.

Prinny didn’t win, and yes, in the moment I was disappointed (I wouldn’t want you thinking I don’t have an ego!).  Congratulations to the winner, Kevin Sylvester, for “Neil Flambe and the Marco Polo Murders.”

Signing poster

But, you know, it’s hard not to feel like a winner when kids line up for an hour to get your signature, when you’re on stage with 1500 kids screaming their heads off because they love books, when as you’re waiting for your taxi you’re mobbed by more kids who want you to sign their books….wow.

I fly home. What’s left of me.

The Silver Birch Awards

When the book tour is over, I’ll be staying in Toronto with friends (what’s left of me!), and attending the Silver Birch Award Ceremony at the  Harbourfront on May 12.  The Present Tense of Prinny Murphy is nominated for the Children’s Choice Award!

I’m looking forward to it.  Last year, it was an eye-opener – all those kids, all so enthusiastic about books.
