2013 Resolution

Like lots of people, I’ve made a New Year’s resolution. And you’ll be the witnesses of whether I keep it!

Starting January 28th, I plan to write a weekly blog, posted every Monday morning.

Hmm. Instead of “I plan to…” I should say, “I am going to…”

Starting January 28th, I am going to write a weekly blog, posted every Monday morning.

There. I did it.

And why not start right away, you ask? Why wait until January 28th ?

Because we all head out next week for our annual writers’ retreat at the abbey in Rogersville NB, and we’re not back until the 24th. And that’s one time of the year when I refuse to go online, send emails, or even make phone calls. You should see the pile of books I’m taking. Also snowshoes. Wish us good talk, good food, and good writing.

Oh, I’m posting a few of the photos I took of the foliage this October by Paper Mill Lake. I was too busy trying to get Nix Minus One ready for typesetting and then off to the printers to post them then. But Nix got there in time, and I’ll be talking more about him at the end of this month.

Come to Word on the Street on Sunday September 25th

Come to Word on the Street on Sunday September 25th, near the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic on Lower Water Street – tents will be set up on the wharf.

Sheree Fitch (“Pluto’s Ghost”), Don Aker (“The Fifth Rule”) and myself (“Home Truths”) will be on a panel called BAD BOYS – how can you resist that? We’ve all written about angry young men (mine the youngest, at 14!).

The panel is hosted by James Leck, and takes place on the Children and Young Adult Stage inside the Children’s Exhibitor Tent on the South Wharf. It goes from 1 -2 pm.

I’ll be doing book signings afterwards for Woozles, our wonderful independent bookstore for children, and at the First Book Canada booth, who are the also wonderful distributors of “Home Truths”.  I’d love to talk to you at either place!

Spring Has Arrived!

In between everything else, I’m finding time to garden.  I even got my first blister of the year from digging three big holes for three new shrubs; dirt under my fingernails (what’s the point of wearing gloves? Isn’t dirt what it’s all about?); crocuses, tulips, and daffodils in bloom; birds chirping away; and sun warm enough to convince you that winter is finally over.

It even took my mind (my very single-mind) off Nix.
