London Calling!

I finished all the arrangements for my trip to London, England, in late August (with an add-on to the Netherlands the week after, where I’ll be visiting good friends).

It was a logistical challenge because every airline has a different system [wrong airport, they say in bright red font, and I think “Gimme a break.”]

I’ll fly Icelandair to London (you land in Iceland both ways, and a longer stay is definitely on my bucket list). In London, I’ll attend the 33rd IBBY Congress (International Board of Books for Young People) and receive my diploma (I think it’s a diploma) for “The Nine Lives of Travis Keating.” Then I fly British Airways to Amsterdam, take the train the Den Haag (The Hague), and attend the 50th birthday party of a dear friend along with several people I met in Den Haag last year. There’ll be time to go to Antwerp, walk the countryside, and, I hope, ride a bicycle again to the beach. And practice my VERY rudimentary Dutch.

Annual Pilgrimage to The Trappistine Abbey

Five women writers made our annual pilgrimage to the Trappistine Abbey in Rogersville, NB. We travel by VIA Rail, which is a big part of the trip – catching up on all our news, reconnecting.

Once we’re there, we work, we play, we walk and talk and laugh ourselves silly, and come home rejuvenated. We are honoured by visits from Muffin, the abbey “greet-cat”, and on our walks in the fields behind the abbey are often accompanied by JJ, the extremely – and I mean extremely – energetic abbey retriever.

And guess what? I finished the edit of “Nix Minus One” while I was there, and sent it out as soon as I got home. I hope you’re impressed.

Update on next book: Nix Minus One

Oh, by the way, I’m still revising “Nix Minus One.” What else is new?
However, I hope to send it out by the middle of next week – or most
certainly, by the end of the month. The free verse form has been a real challenge for me. But a good one!
Wish Nix – and me! – luck.

A new cover for Home Truths

Due to the nomination of “Home Truths” for the Red Maple Award 2012, Cormorant/Dancing Cat Books have reissued the book with a brand-new cover.
I’m very happy with the cover! The designer, I feel, did a fine job.
What are your thoughts? Which cover do you prefer?
