On Monday October 17th, I went to the launch of Vicki Grant’s new YA novel, “Betsy Wickwire’s Dirty Secret”. What a wonderful gathering of friends, family, and fellow writers.
Vicki won the Red Maple Award last year for “Unsuitable for Family Viewing,” and at her launch mentioned Don Aker’s nomination for the White Pine Award 2012 for “The Fifth Rule,” and mine for the Red Maple, and welcomed writers Lisa Harrington and Jessica Scott-Kerrin. I was on a panel with Don Aker at Word on the Street last month, so it was a pleasure to see him again.
Great to see so many people out to celebrate a new novel for teens!
I’m happy to tell you that “Home Truths” is nominated for the Red Maple Award 2012. This is the Ontario Library Association’s fiction list for grades 7-8, and means the book will be in participating schools in Ontario over the winter.
It also means I’ll be off to Harbourfront in Toronto again next May. Something to look forward to as the days grow shorter and colder!
