Book #4

I’m brooding over book #4.  The plan is to start it on January 3.

Because talking about a book is so much easier than writing one, I don’t talk about writing that isn’t written yet. Too easy to get rid of all the energy you need in order to sit down in front of 200 or more blank computer screens over a period of several months.

Wish me luck!

Book Signing

I’m doing book signings for all three of my kids’ books at IndigoSpirit in Sunnyside Mall from noon to 1:30 pm, then at Chapters in MicMac Mall in Dartmouth from 2:30 to 4 pm.

I’m always nervous about doing this – being a salesperson isn’t my favourite persona.  So wish me luck and lots of interested readers.

Some Favourite Books

A progress report. Yes, I’ve managed to make lots of time for reading since coming home from Banff.  I’m trying to find as many books written in free verse as I can, and I’ve found some wonderful ones.

Here’s a list of a few favourites:
Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse (a heartbreaker)
Heartbeat by Sharon Creech
Crazy Man by Pamela Porter
Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes
The Brimstone Journals by Ron Koertge
Libertad by Alma Fullerton
One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies by Sonya Sones
Street Love by Walter D. Myers
Love, Ghosts and Facial Hair by Steven Herrick
Happy reading to you!
And my thanks to the student at Caledonia Junior High who recommended Walter D. Myers to me.

Writers in the Schools

For Writers in the Schools, I visited grades 4-6 in Alderney School and Admiral Westphal School. Then at Ian Forsyth School on the 23rd I spent time with two grade six classes, and at Caledonia Junior High the next day with two grade sevens.

All these schools are in Dartmouth. It was my first time with grade seven, and my first presentation using Home Truths.

The teacher had read about 50 pages of the book to both classes – and what a difference that makes! The students were already into the book, knew something about it, and the questions and comments flew.

I have one more school on December 3rd .
